무지 / Muzi
호기심 많은 장난꾸러기 무지는 사실 토끼옷을 입은 단무지라는 설정을 지니고 있다. 작가 호조(HOZO)는 카카오톡의 상징색인 노란색과 갈색 중 노란색을 대표할 캐릭터를 생각하다가 단무지를 떠올렸다고 말했다.

Curious and playful, Muzi is actually a piece of takuan (also known as Danmuji in Korean) in rabbit clothes. HOZO stated that he thought of a takuan while thinking about a character that could represent the colors yellow and brown, which are the corporate colors of KakaoTalk.

호기심 많은 장난꾸러기 무지! 토끼옷을 입고 있지만 정체는 단무지. 토끼옷을 벗으면 부끄러움을 많이 탑니다.

콘 / Con
작은 악어처럼 생긴 콘은 무지를 키워낸 존재이다. 작가 호조(HOZO)는 콘은 비밀이 많은 캐릭터로 항상 옆모습만 보여준다고 밝혔다. 콘은 악어 종류의 하나인 '크로코다일'과 작다는 의미의 '콩알'을 조합해 붙인 이름이다.

Con, who looks like a small crocodile, is the one who raised Muzi. HOZO stated that Con is a character with a lot of secrets, always showing only the side of his face. The name Con is a combination of Crocodile and the korean word 콩알(pronounced as kongal), which means 'small'.

어피치 / Apeach
유전자 변형으로 자웅동주가 된 것을 알고 복숭아나무에서 탈출하였다는 설정을 지닌 어피치는 개구쟁이 성격을 지닌 캐릭터로 연령대가 10대 후반에서 20대 초반으로 사춘기를 겪고 있는 캐릭터이다.

Apeach has the setting of escaping from a peach tree after learning that he became monoecious due to a genetic modification. He is a playful character, and also an adolescent character in his late teens to early twenties.

제이지 / Jay-G
제이지는 땅속나라 요원으로 토끼 간을 찾기 위해 파견된 두더지 캐릭터이다. 토끼 간을 구하기 위해 무지의 뒤를 쫓고 있다는 특징이 있다. 이름은 미국의 힙합 뮤지션인 제이지를 동경해 스스로 JAY-G로 개명했다는 설정을 지니고 있다.

Jay-G is a mole character who was sent to find a rabbit's liver as an agent from the underground country. So, he chases after Muzi for his (or her) liver. He apparently renamed himself Jay-G, after looking up to the American hip-hop artist, Jay-Z.

부자집 도시개 프로도는 잡종이라 태생에 대한 콤플렉스가 많다는 설정을 지니고 있다. 회사 측은 프로도라는 이름은 처음에 회사 내의 한 직원의 호칭에서 따 왔으며, 디즈니의 강아지 캐릭터 플루토와 발음이 비슷하며 세계 어디에서나 부르기 쉬운 이름이라 최종 결정했다고 밝혔다.

Frodo is a rich-born dog from the city. He has a complex that he is a mixed-blooded dog. He usually wears a red dog collar or a tie. Frodo is officially a couple with Neo, the cat character, and shows affection.

새침하고 사나운 고양이 네오는 특유의 단발머리가 가발이라는 점과 강아지 캐릭터 프로도와 연인 사이라는 설정을 지니고 있다. 네오는 검은 고양이 네로에서 착안하여 붙여진 이름이다. 회사 측은 네오가 쇼핑을 사랑하는 카카오 프렌즈를 대표하는 패셔니스트라고 밝혔다.

Neo is a cat character with a bob cut wig and she is the lover of Frodo. The company stated that Neo is the representative fashionista of the Kakao friends characters who love shopping.

튜브는 겁 많은 소심한 오리 캐릭터로 극도의 공포를 느끼면 미친 오리로 변신한다는 설정을 지니고 있다. 튜브라는 이름은 입이 튜브처럼 생겨서 붙여졌다. 어피치한테 괴롭힘을 당한다.

Tube is a cowardly, weak-minded duck. He has the complex for his small feet so he wears flippers. If he feels extreme fear or anger, he spits fire out of his mouth and turns into a crazy green duck.

겁 많고 마음약한 오리 튜브. 극도의 공포를 느끼면 미친 오리로 변신합니다. 작은 발이 콤플렉스여서 큰 오리발을 착용합니다. 미운오리새끼가 먼 친척입니다.

You won't like Tube when he's angry! His angry, green alter ego comes out when he's upset. But at heart, he's a sensitive fowl who hides his shamefully small feet in webbed slippers.

Tube is fearful and emotional duck distantly related to the Ugly Duckling. Tube wears prosthetic flippers to hide naturally tiny feet - a sensitive issue for the duck. 2016년 1월 22일에 새롭게 발표된 캐릭터 라이언. 갈기가 없는 게 콤플렉스인 수사자. 큰 덩치와 무뚝뚝한 표정으로 오해를 많이 사지만 사실 누구보다 여리고 섬세한 감성을 가지고 있는, 카카오 프렌즈의 믿음직스러운 조언자. 아프리카 둥둥섬 왕위 계승자였으나, 자유로운 삶을 동경해 탈출. 꼬리가 길면 잡히기 때문에 꼬리가 짧다. 다른 카카오 프렌즈는 라이언의 지혜와 가르침 없이는 없어질 것이라고 주장한다.

The character named Ryan was newly announced on January 22, 2016. At first glance, he looks like a bear but he is a lion that doesn't have a mane. Ryan was a successor to the throne of the Doong Doong Island in Africa, but he escaped for a free life. A lot of people misunderstand him because of his expressionless face, but he’s the trustworthy mentor who has delicate emotions.

Ryan, the newest member of the Kakao Friends, is a male lion born without a mane. The broad and burly lion has the heart of a lamb, which is a part of why the Kakao Friends quickly adopted him as their loyal leader. Ryan was prepared to ascend to the throne as the ruler of Doong Doong Island, but he decided island royalty wasn't for him. The other Kakao Friends claim they would be lost without Ryan's wisdom and guidance.

툭하면 헐크 모드인 악마오리 팬질하다가 여기까지 오게 된 듯... 카카오톡 캐릭터 소개는 영어 공부를 하는 차원에서 정리해본 것이다. 내가 외국 분한테 매력적인 초록색 악마오리를 사랑한다고 했더니 하양오리랑 초록오리가 같은 존재라는 것을 계속 이해하지 못하셨다. 그러다가 초록오리가 하양오리의 또 다른 자아라는 것을 이내 깨달으셨다. 그러면서 나처럼 악마오리의 팬이 되셨다. ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ 영어 설명을 보니 초록오리로 변신하면 불을 내뿜고 가구를 파괴한다고 나와 있다. 내가 동영상에 있는 카카오톡 메시지가 무슨 내용인지 번역해드린 적도 있었다. 어쩌다 보니 내가 쓰는 글들은 내용이 무엇이든지 툭하면 악마오리로 마무리하곤 한다.
