Concerto No. 1 “La Primavera” / 봄

I. Allegro / 1악장

Giunt' è la primavera, e festosetti

la salutari gl' augei con lieto canto,

e i fonti allo spirar de' Zeffiretti

con dolce mormorio scorrono intanto.

Vengon coprendo l'aer di nero ammanto

e lampi e tuoni ad annunziarla eletti;

indi tacendo questi gl' augelletti

tornan di nuovo al lor canoro incanto:

Spring has arrived, and joyfully

the birds greet her with glad song,

while at Zephyr's breath the streams

flow forth with a sweet murmur.

Her chosen heralds, thunder and lightning, 

come to envelope the air in a black cloak;

once they have fallen silent, the little birds 

return anew to their melodious incantation;

봄이 왔다.

새들은 즐거운 노래로 인사를 한다.

그때 시냇물은 살랑거리는 미풍에

상냥하고 중얼거리는 소리를 내면서 흘러가기 시작한다.

하늘은 어두워지고

천둥과 번개가 봄을 알린다.

폭풍우가 가라앉은 뒤,

새들은 다시 아름다운 노래를 부르기 시작한다.

II. Largo / 2악장

e quindi sul fiorito ameno prato

al caro mormorio di fronde e piante

dorme 'l caprar col fido can a lato.

then on the pleasant, flower-bedecked meadow,

to the happy murmur of fronds and plants,

the goatherd sleeps next to his trusty dog.

여기 꽃들이 만발한 즐거운 목장에서는

나뭇잎들이 달콤하게 속삭이고

양치기는 충실한 개를 곁에 두고 잠들어 있다.

III. Allegro / 3악장

Di pastoral zampogna al suon festante

danzan ninfe e pastor nel tetto amato

di primavera all' apparir brillante.

To the festive sound of rustic bagpipes

nymphs and shepherds dance

beneath the beloved sky at the glorious appearance of spring.

님프들과 양치기들은

전원풍 무곡의 명랑한 백파이프 소리에 맞추어

눈부시게 단장한 봄에 단란한 지붕 아래서 춤추고 있다.

Concerto No. 2 “L’Estate” / 여름

I. Allegro non molto / 1악장

Sotto dura stagion dal sole accesa

langue l'uom, langue 'l gregge ed arde il pino;

scioglie il cucco la voce, e tosto intesa

canta la tortorella e 'l gardellino.

Zeffiro dolce spira, ma contesa

muove Borea improvviso al suo vicino;

e piange i pastorel perché sospesa

tema fiera borasca e 'l suo destino.

In a harsh season burned by the sun,

man and flock languish, and the pine tree is scorched;

the cuckoo unleashes its voice, and soon

we hear the songs of the turtle-dove and the goldfinch.

Sweet Zephyr blows, but Boreas suddenly

opens a dispute with his neighbor;

and the shepherd laments his fate,

for he fears a fierce squall is coming.

이 무더운 계절에는 타는 태양도 사람도 가축의 무리도 활기를 잃고 있다.

들조차 덥다.

뻐꾸기가 울기 시작했다.

산비둘기와 방울새가 노래한다.

산들바람이 상냥하게 분다.

그러나 갑작스런 북풍이 싸움을 걸어온다.

양치기는 갑자기 비를 두려워하며

불운에 떨며 눈물을 흘린다.

II. Adagio e piano / 2악장

Toglie alle membra lasse il suo riposo

il timore de' lampi e tuoni fieri

e de' mosche e mossoni il stuol furioso.

His weary limbs are robbed of rest

by his fear of fierce thunder and lightning

and by the furious swarm of flies and blowflies.

번개, 격렬한 천둥소리, 그리고 큰 파리와 작은 파리.

광란하는 파리 떼의 위협을 받은 그는

피로한 몸을 쉴 수도 없다.

III. Presto e forte Presto / 3악장

Ah che pur troppo i suoi timor son veri:

tuona e fulmina il ciel, e grandinoso

tronca il capo alle spiche e a' grani alteri.

Alas, his fears are only too real:

the sky fills with thunder and lightning, 

and hailstones hew off the heads of proud cornstalks.

아아, 그의 두려움을 얼마나 옳았던가.

하늘은 천둥을 울리고 번개를 비치고

우박을 내리게 하여 익은 열매나 곡물을 모두 쓸어버린다.

Concert No. 3 “L’Autunno” / 가을

I. Allegro / 1악장

Celebra il villanel con balli e canti

del felice raccolto il bel piacere,

e del liquor di Bacco accesi, tanti

finiscono col sonno il lor godere.

The countryman celebrates with dance and song

the sweet pleasure of a good harvest,

and many, fired by the liquor of Bacchus,

end their enjoyment by falling asleep.

마을 사람들은 춤과 노래로

복된 수확의 즐거움을 축하한다.

바커스의 술 덕택으로 떠들어댄다.

그들의 즐거움은 잠으로 끝난다.

II. Adagio molto / 2악장

Fa ch' ogn' uno tralasci e balli e canti

l'aria, che temperata dà piacere,

e la stagion, ch' invita tanti e tanti

d'un dolcissimo sonno al bel godere.

Everyone is made to abandon singing and dancing

by the temperate air, which gives pleasure,

and by the season, which invites so many

to enjoy the sweetness of sleep.

일동이 춤을 그치고 노래도 그친 뒤에는

조용한 공기가 싱그럽다.

이 계절은 달콤한 잠으로

사람에게 큰 즐거움을 준다.

III. Allegro / 3악장

I cacciator alla nov' alba a caccia

con corni, schioppi e cani escono fuore;

fugge la belva e seguono la traccia;

già sbigottita e lassa al gran rumore

de' schioppi e cani, ferita minaccia

languida di fuggir, ma oppressa muore.

The huntsmen come out at the crack of dawn

with their horns, guns and hounds;

the quarry flees and they track it;

already terrified and tired out by the great noise

of the guns and hounds, the wounded beast

makes a feeble effort to flee but, dies in agony.

새벽에 사냥꾼들은

뿔피리와 총, 개를 데리고

사냥에 나선다.

짐승은 이미 겁을 먹고 총과 개들의 소리에

지칠 대로 지치고 상처를 입어 떨고 있다.

도망칠 힘조차 다하여 궁지에 몰리다가 끝내 죽는다.

Concerto No. 4 “L’Inverno” / 겨울

I. Allegro non molto / 1악장

Aggiacciato tremar tra nevi algenti

al severo spirar d'orrido vento;

correr battendo i piedi ogni momento;

e pel soverchio gel batter i denti;

To shiver, frozen, amid icy snow

in the bitter blast of a horrible wind;

to run, constantly stamping one's feet;

and feel one's teeth chatter on account of the excessive cold;

차가운 눈 속에서 얼어붙어 떨고,

격심하게 부는 무서운 바람에

쉴 새 없이 발을 구르고 달린다.

너무 심한 추위에 이가 덜덜 떨린다.

II. Largo / 2악장

passar al foco i di quieti e contenti

mentre la pioggia fuor bagna ben cento;

to spend restful, happy days at the fireside

while the rain outside drenches a good hundred;

불 곁에서 조용하고 만족스런 나날을 보내는 동안

밖에서는 비가 만물을 적신다.

III. Allegro / 3악장

camminar sopra 'l giaccio e a passo lento

per timor di cader girsene intenti;

gir forte, sdrucciolar, cader a terra;

di nuovo ir sopra 'l giaccio e correr forte

sin ch'il giaccio si rompe e si disserra;

sentir uscir dalle ferrate porte

Sirocco, Borea e tutti i venti in guerra:

quest'è 'l verno, ma tal che gioia apporte.

to walk on the ice, and with slow steps

to move about cautiously for fear of falling;

to go fast, to slip and fall down;

to go on the ice again and run fast

until the ice cracks and opens up;

to hear coming out of the iron gates

Sirocco, Boreas and all the winds at war;

that's winter; but of a kind gladdens one's heart.

얼음 위를 걷는다.

넘어지는 것이 두려워 느린 걸음으로 주의 깊게 발을 내딛는다.

난폭하게 걷다가 미끄러져 아래로 쓰러진다.

다시 얼음 위를 걸어,

격렬하게 달린다.

바람이 제멋대로 휘젓고 다니는 소리를 듣는다.

이것이 겨울이다.

그러나 이렇게 해서 겨울은 기쁨을 가져다주는 것이다.

밀린 음악 파일을 정리하다가 나온 동영상인데 유튜브에서도 전체를 볼 수 있다. 코로나19 때문에 연주자 전원이 마스크를 쓰고 연주한다. 프로그램만 간단히 정리하고 끝낼 수도 있었는데 동화책을 간단하게 읽어주는 것 같은 장면이 나와서 자막 추출 프로그램에서 복사한 다음 외국 분한테 부탁하여 다듬었다. 하지만 결국 똑같은 영문 번역을 기어이 찾아냈고 내 부족한 구글링을 사과했다. 인터넷에 돌아다니는 영문 번역이 제니퍼 파이크가 낭송하는 소네트와 살짝 달라도 거의 같아서 수정이 수월했다. 마지막 메시지는 홍보 문구라 넣지 않았다.
