The pianist Alexey Botvinov was born in Odessa, where he started his musical formation. Later he became a student at the famous Moscow Conservatory and won, as the youngest participant ever, the first All-Unions Rachmaninov Competition in Moscow. He was also a laureate at the eighth International Bach Competition in Leipzig and at the very first Clara Schumann Competition in Düsseldorf. Consequently his home town appointed him as a professor at the Odessa Conservatory and as a permanent guest soloist with the Odessa Philharmonic.

피아니스트 알렉세이 보트비노프는 1964년 9월 8일 오데사에서 출생하여 그곳에서 음악 교육을 시작했다. 나중에는 유명한 모스크바 음악원의 학생이 되었으며, 1983년 모스크바에서 열린 제1회 전소련 라흐마니노프 콩쿠르(공동 3위) 사상 최연소 참가자로서 입상했다. 그는 또한 1988년 라이프치히에서 열린 제8회 바흐 국제음악콩쿠르(3위)와 1994년 뒤셀도르프에서 열린 제1회 클라라 슈만 콩쿠르에서 입상했다. 그 결과 고향에서 오데사 음악원 교수 및 오데사 필하모닉 종신 객원 독주자로 임명되었다.

In 1993 Botvinov opened the concert season at the Tonhalle Zürich, playing Tchaikovsky’s first piano concerto under the baton of Vladimir Fedoseyev, which was highly acclaimed by the press and by the audience.

1993년에는 블라디미르 페도세예프의 지휘하에 취리히 톤할레에서 차이코프스키 피아노 협주곡 1번을 연주하면서 콘서트 시즌을 시작하였으며 언론과 청중의 극찬을 받았다.

During the years 1994-96 Alexey Botvinov lived in Düsseldorf (Germany). It was at that time when a fruitful collaboration began with the famous choreographer Heinz Spoerli. The production of the «Goldberg Variations» (Zurich Opernhaus) became legendary and toured all over Europe, Japan, Canada, South Africa and Israel with huge success. For his breathtaking performance of the «Goldberg Variations» in June 2001 at the Deutsche Oper Berlin the press wrote: «a real firework at the piano...» (Berliner Kurier.) There followed more ballet productions together with Heinz Spoerli with music by Bach, Mozart, Schumann, Brahms, Chopin, Schnittke and Stravinsky. Brahms’ ‘Handel Variations’, some of Chopin’s Nocturnes and the ‘Goldberg Variations’ by Bach are available on CD Alphadisc («Superbe!», Le Firago, Paris).

Many of his recitals (e.g. at the Zürich Festspiele) with works by Bach, Chopin, Fauré, Ravel and Rachmaninov were given standing ovations and found enthusiastic acclaims by the press.

바흐, 쇼팽, 포레, 라벨, 라흐마니노프의 작품들로 이루어진 그의 많은 독주회(예를 들면 취리히 페스티벌)는 기립 박수를 받았으며 언론의 열광적인 찬사를 받았다.

In 2002 Alexey Botvinov was appointed member of the Jury at the International Piano Competition “Arthur Rubinstein” in Poland.

Sergei Rachmaninov (1873-1943) remains – after Tchaikovsky – one of the most popular Russian composers. Already celebrated as a piano virtuoso, he left his native country for good shortly before the outbreak of the revolution. He then lived for a while in Dresden and Paris before he settled in the United States, Rachmaninov died in Bevelry Hills in 1943.

세르게이 라흐마니노프(1873~1943)는 차이코프스키 다음으로 가장 유명한 러시아 작곡가 중 한 명으로 남아 있다. 이미 피아노의 거장으로 알려진 그는 혁명이 발발하기 직전에 조국을 영원히 떠났다. 그 후 미국에 정착하기 전에 드레스덴과 파리에서 잠시 살았으며, 1943년 비벌리힐스에서 사망했다.

His most famous piano piece, the «Prelude in C sharp minor», was written while he was still studying in Moscow. Later on Rachmaninov composed another 24 Preludes and compiled them in two separate collections (opus 23 and 32). The unique combination of mundane elegance with passion and Russian melancholy made the artist world-famous, not only as a performer, but also as a composer. Rachmaninov’s contributions to the musical species «Lied» do not follow the intimate tradition of Schubert. They are moreover elegant tunes with a virtuoso piano accompaniment, meant for a large audience in a concert hall. Alexey Botvinov arranged three of these compositions. («AU!», «Hier ist es schön» and «Frühlingsfluten») for piano solo.
